Getting started¶
Octopus Deploy makes it easy to automate deployment of ASP.NET web applications and Windows Services into development, test and production environments. This section will get you up and running quickly with Octopus, by guiding you through creating and deploying a simple project with Octopus Deploy.
How Octopus works¶
An Octopus Deploy installation consists of three major parts, shown in the diagram below:

These parts are:
- An artifact repository, the collection of application packages that you plan to deploy. Octopus uses Microsoft NuGet packages. There are plenty of options for creating and hosting NuGet packages which you can read about on our packaging page.
